Fresh moves at New Road

Nathan Outlaw’s eponymous restaurant in Port Isaac continues to reshape its offering for diners keen to experience the acclaimed chef’s cooking. However, one thing remains the same: Outlaw’s is still the place to delight in excellently executed fish dishes.

At New Road, Nathan cooks the kind of food he loves to eat, namely quality local seafood prepared in a way that lets the ingredients do the talking. A revised evening dining experience means the restaurant now exclusively offers a seafood tasting menu, which pioneers innovative ways of preparing and cooking the exceptional Cornish catch.

Expect dishes like baked turbot with velvet crab sauce, lobster with orange and basil risotto, and raw scallop with smoked roe. Despite the move to a more informal style of dining, New Road has retained its Michelin star and placed sixth in the list of the UK’s best restaurants in The Good Food Guide.

Daytime diners are in for something special, too. To mark 20 years since Nathan opened The Black Pig (his first restaurant in Cornwall), the chef has launched an à la carte lunch menu honouring his favourite dishes from the past two decades.

Trencherman’s tip: the recent unveiling of Outlaw’s Guest House offers the chance for an exclusive foodie escape. Stay in one of nine bedrooms in the refurbished Victorian building or one of two self‑catering coastal retreats, all just moments from the harbour.
