Fancy frocks, award winning produce and delicately detailed dishes are our first thoughts when it comes to edibles at one of Cornwall’s swankiest coastal establishments, but it’s St Moritz Hotel’s little-known, easy-going eatery that the Trencherman’s editorial team have been checking out in the summer sunshine

Follow a little path past the striking art-deco-esque building – don’t go too far, you’ll fall right off the cliff into the Atlantic – and you’ll find the laid-back Sea Side Restaurant, handily located right next door to the luxury hotel’s outdoor pool if you fancy a dip.

Visit for knockout views over the Camel Estuary that’ll have you googling house prices under the table, and frighteningly fresh food – we’re talking this morning’s crop – confirming your new found need to relocate to this beautiful pocket of the country.

Don’t visit for fine dining and fancy thrills – that’s St Moritz’ formal restaurant’s job. Stacked South West beef burgers, dressed Cornish crab and seasonal salads are the Sea Side’s bag.

We liked the slick new dining space: all simple furniture, bold colours and seaside quirks. Grab a table by the floor to ceiling windows if you can and watch the world go by with a glass in hand.

Insider’s tip Swing by this hidden Cornish hangout on a Wednesday and make the most of its new Celebrate the Seasons menu. Putting a different hyper-local ingredient in the limelight each month, midday munchers can look forward to St Enodoc asparagus, Porthilly mussels and other such provincial prizes. The £14.95 price tag – including a good glass of vino – isn’t too shabby either.
